| الملخص | This study was carried out in the area located about 28 km north east of Najaf city and 1.6 km to the north west of feldspar Quarry, to investigate the sand suitability of ceramic and preparing for filters water.
The area of study is carried out 3.2km2 covered by drilling of 30 boreholes distributed a net of 400 m X 400 m, the average depth of the boreholes about12.0 m, and the total drilling meters was 358 m.
Two hundred and twenty six samples were collected from the boreholes submitted to grains analysis sizes for the fractions (4mm– 0.063mm) the results show that 37% of the bulk sand restricted total sizes (<2mm – 0.600 mm), the ratio of (0.500 -0.150) mm is about 57%. Three hundred and fifteen samples submitted to chemical analyzed results showed the following percentage of the components, after classifying into two beds according to SiO2 percentages, which are above and below 90 %

The results of the field work and laboratories tests showed two industrial bed first one suitable for color glass industry filters sand which ranging in thickness between (3.0-10.) m, with average thickness 6.45 m for layer 1, the second industrial bed which concentration of SiO2 below 90%, is suitable for thermostone and other construction purposes ranging in thickness from 0.5- to 5.6 m. with average 2.11.
The industrial beds under form an overburden bed from gypsum sand, sandstone and soil with gravels, medium tough to friable ranging in thickness (0-6.0) m with the average 2.07 m, and superimposed with inner bed ranging in thickness between 0 to 3.5 m., average thickness 1.09 m
Volumes of the industrial colored glass bed from the sand suitable for filters sand, is about 7 619 570m3, volume of the industrial bed from bulk sand for colored glass manufactured is about 11 635 290m3, and the volume of (layer2) is about 4 727 0 55 m3of sandstone suitable for building purposes. | |
