الملخص | The study area lies in the western central part of Iraq. The remote sensing techniques are used in order to produce a Land Use – Land Cover (LULC) map of Al-Ramadi Quadrangle, scale 1:250 000 depending on Landsat TM5 satellite image at acquisition date 2007 and classification procedure that is developed by USGS and modified by remote sensing division to accommodate the Iraqi environment.
The LULC map has been produced depending on ERDAS Imagine V.11 program by classifying each pixel of TM image which belong to one of the five main LULC classes. Some classes were modified and interpolated using GIS depending on field checking because of the interference between these classes in some places of the map area.
The LULC raster image has been converted to vector layer, using Arc GIS V.10 program in order to create a digital LULC map. The accuracy assessment for classification is (95.52 %) and Kappa coefficient is (0.9456).
Five main LULC have been recognized in the map area, these are: Urban and Built-up Land (Code 1), Vegetated Land (Code 2), Water (Code 5), which is divided into two subclasses; River (Code 51), Lake (Code52), Wetland (Code6), Barren Land (Code7), which is classified into four subclasses; Bare Exposed Rocks (Code74), The Bare Exposed Rocks subclass is divided into one subclass which is Mixed Exposed Rocks (Code 743), Mixed covers about 44.06% of the map Barren Land (Code77), Bare Soil (Code78), Gypecret (Code710). Mixed study area Barren Land Class prevailing in the it area. | |
