الملخصThe study area is located nearly in the southern part of Iraq; between Najaf-Karbala governorate, many of quarries, brick factories, plaster factories exist in the study area due to presence of row materials such as clay, sand, gravel, gypcrete which represents the major sources used for construction materials .quickbird (2006) satellite image data with high spatial resolution (0.6m) and Landsat7 satellite image data sensor Enhanced Thematic Mapper(ETM) 2006 with resolution(30m) have been used to determine the different types of quarries, the quarries in the study area have classified into four classes clay, sand, sand with gravel, and gypcrete quarry by using visual interpretation the types of quarries have determined to prepare database for each quarry which include border of quarry, area of quarry, shape of quarry . From Visual interpretation (236) quarries have determined in the study area which revealed the most quarries are within and near Najaf- Karbala plateau and most of them are distributed randomly with unequal geometrical shapes.
