الملخص | This study was carried out in an area located about 75 km south west of Al- Nassirya city to study the feldspar in the sand dunes within Al- Muthanna Governorate area, and estimate a primary reserve.
The work included study of 23 sand dunes in an area of about 11 km2 with a net of about 1000 m X 1000 m distributed in two blocks.
Sixty nine samples were collected from the sand dunes and submitted to chemical analysis in GEOSURV central laboratories and the results showed the averages percentages of the following oxides and component:
SiO2 Fe2O3 Al2O3 TiO2 CaO MgO SO3 L.O.I Na2O K2O Cl- P2O5
76.88 1.87 3.03 0.31 6.61 1.17 0.15 6.27 2.02 1.50 0.02 0.11
Samples are determined mineralogically according to formulas derived from molecular weights and chemical formulas of oxides and minerals, and the results shows the results (as percentages):
Feldspar Quartz Dolomite Gypsum Limestone
25.95 59.45 3.64 0.11 8.66
Sixty nine samples submitted to the geological laboratories for grain size analysis to determine size grains of the following sizes (1.0-0.71), (0.71-0.5), (0.5-0.25), (0.25-0.180) and (0.180-0.63) mm, the results showed that the sizes (- 0.5+0.25), (-0.25+0.18) and (-0.18+0.063) are the main sizes of the bulk sand, and the feldspar bearing sand sizes concentrated in the sizes (-0.25+0.18) and (-0.18+0.063) mm.
The volume of bulk sands in sand dunes is 7,430,573 m3, and volume of feldspar bearing sand, which is found in the sizes (-0.25+0.18) and (-0.18+0.063) mm represent about 25% of the bulk sand in sand dunes is 1,857,643 m3 in the investigated area. The reserve estimated within category C2.
