الملخصThe map area limited within Samarra Quadrangle at scale of 1:250 000 is covered by about 75 % of Quaternary sediments. Pre-Quaternary rocks belong to the Middle Miocene – Pleistocene, represented by Fatha, Injana, Mukdadiya and Bai Hassan formations. Tectonically, the map area lies within the Low Folded Zone and the Mesopotamia Foredeep, and includes Himreen Structure, Pulkhana, Gillabat, Qumar, Kalar and Barda Sur anticlines Geomorphologically, the map area has been divided in¬to three geomorphological units, which are: alluvial, denudation and structural. Hydrogeologically, the map area is draining by the Tigris, Adhaim and Diyala rivers. The majority of the groundwater is fresh. Accept in area where gypsum rocks are exposed. Gypsums, limestones, gravels, clays and salt are the important non-metallic minerals as raw materials.
