QUALITATIVE INTERPRETATION OF THE AIRBORNE RADIOMETRIC DATA OF SINJAR AND AL-MOSUL QUADRANGLES USING GIS TECHNIQUES
الملخص
The total count radiometric data of Sinjar andAl-MosulQuadrangles(the map area) was analyzed and separated to its residual and regional (background) maps. The regional maps showed an increase in radiometric background from west towards the east, while the residual radiometric anomaly map showed two residual radiometric anomalies distributed in the map area.
Anomaly (R1) is located in the western part of the map areawhich comprises two wide elongated, isolated and rounded anomalies extended in E–W direction, with maximum residual radiation 600 c/s. It mostly reflects sheet Run-off and residual soil sediments
Anomalies (R2) is located in the east and north of the map areawhich comprises numerous wide large, elongated and isolated anomalies extended in NW-SE direction and some small isolated and rounded anomalies, these anomalies coincide mostly with Injana formation, Fatha formation and residual soil sediments.
Acomparison between total count radiometric map and the geological map of the study area was carried out; it showed a radioactive range of each geologic formation and Quaternary sediments. It was concluded that, in general, the structural setting of the map area, which characterized by existence of numerous surface and subsurface structures might play an important role in forming the radiometric anomalies of the map area.
