الملخصThis study was carried out in an area located about 15 Km southwest of Al-Shanafia city, within Al-Diwania Governorate. The target of this study was to find out the suitability of the carbonate rocks within the investigated area for cement industry. The field work includes drilling of 20 boreholes, in a drilling net ranging from 1.0 km X1.0 km. Boreholes average was depth about 15.65 m, , and total drilling meters reach to 313 m. Two hundred and sixty six samples were collected and subjected to chemical analysis, their average percentages are: CaO MgO SO3 SiO2 Fe2O3 Al2O3 L.O.I. Na2O K2O Cl P2O5 49.76 1.22 0.26 6.41 0.29 0.95 40.43 0.11 0.12 0.07 0.07 Twenty samples were physically tested for bulk density and compressive strength .The average bulk density was 2.06 gm/cm2, uniaxial compressive strength with an average of 15.78 MN/m2. The industrial bed, within the investigated area belongs partly to the lower part of Euphrates Formation and the other part to the upper part of Dammam Formation. The average thickness of the industrial bed is 7.18 m. The reserve of limestone rocks suitable for cement industry is about 139, 256,698 ton; estimated within C2 category. The industrial bed occurs below overburden bed composed of dolomite in addition to recent sediments, rangin
