الملخص | According to the annual investment plan of Iraq Geological Survey (2017), this hydrogeological study has conducted to the Al-Teeb area which is located in Misan Governorate south of Iraq.
The exposed formations in Al-Teeb area are represented by: Mukdadiya (Pliocene) and Bai Hassan (Pliocene- Pleistocene) formations in addition to Quaternary sediments.
The climate of the study area is characterized by hot and dry summer and relatively cold winter with moderate rainfall
formations represent the main upper aquifer in the north and northeastern parts of the study area, while Quaternary sediments in the rest places in case of suitable thickness represent the uppermost aquifer. The general direction of the groundwater flow in the map area is mainly from the north and northeast toward the south and southwest. .
Bai Hassan and Mukdadiya
Studies of the morphometric parameters of Al –Teeb basin have been carried out by using the Digital Elevation model (DEM) and GIS program; the results reveal that the basin is classified as 5th order basin. The area of the basin is about (1990.809 km2) with maximum length (111.654km).Al-Teeb basin is of elongated shape with elongation ratio of 0.451, circularity ratio0.15 and the drainage density is 0.4758. The low value of drainage density is attributed to the high resistance of rocks and to the high topography.
Quality of the ground water is variable. It is mainly sulphatic and in some places being chloridic and bicarbonate water. The groundwater is classified according to the total dissolved solids into five main classes: fresh water, slightly brackish water, moderately brackish water, highly brackish water and salty water. Most of the groundwater in the map area is not suitable for human drinking, but can be used for all animals according to the available standards. The groundwater can be used for irrigation when the permeability of soil high especially in some products high salt tolerance like tomatoes, spinach and vigna unguiculatal, some of water samples can be used for building and construction and industrial purposes like food, cement, petroleum except paper industry. | |
