dc.description"GEOLOGICAL MAPPING"ar
الملخصArea about 2160 Km2 was studied to execute detailed geological mapping with accuracy of 1:25 000. It is located within the northeastern part of the Southern Desert, within Al-Najaf and Al- Anbar governorate, about 100 Km to the south and southwest of Najaf city and 50 km to the northeast of Shbechah city. Geomorphologically, the project area is located within the Southern and the Western Desert. Several types of geomorghological units are developed within the project area, they are of, solution, fluvial, denudational, aeolian and of evaporation origins. Stratigraphically, the area is built up of three formations of sedimentary rocks ranging in age from Middle Eocene to Pliocene-Pleistocene, they are Dammam, Euphrates, and Zahra formations beside various types of Quaternary sediments. Structurally, The project area lies within the Inner Platform (Stable Shelf) to the west of Abu Jir Fault Zone. It is a part of the Arabian Plate, the exposed strata of Eocene to Pleistocene age have slightly regional dip towards northeast. The geochemical evolution of the exposed rocks of Eocene (Dammam Formation)and Miocene (Euphrates Formation) depending on 84 rock samples. The samples were analyzed for SiO2, MgO, Fe2O3, Al2O3, CaO,L.O.I, Na2O, K2O, Cland SO3. The samples comprise different lithologies, from carbonates to clastic, belong to different stratigraphic positions. The most importanteconomic materials in the studied area is limestone .
