الملخص | Shithatha Quadrangle at scale 1:250000, is a part of the Iraqi western desert. The eastern part of the map area lies within the Mesopotamia Foredeep and the rest of it lies within Inner Platform zone in Iraq. The remote sensing techniques are used in order to prepare Land Use Land Cover (LULC) map of the study area using supervised classification technique depending on landsat 8 image 2013 (scale 1:250 000) and classification procedure that was developed by USGS and modified after Anderson by GEOSURV remote sensing division team to be suitable with Iraqi environment.
Five classes of LULC have been recognized in the map area, these are, Urban and Built-up land (Code 1), Vegetated Land (Code 2), Agricultural Land Non-Vegetated (Code 3), Water (Code 5) and Barren Land (Code 7), which is the most common class was subdivided into five subclasses: Salt Flats (Subcode 71), Bare Exposed Rocks (Subcode 74), Mixed Barren Land (Subcode 77), Bare Soil (Subcode 78), and Gypcrete (Subcode 710). The overall classification accuracy is 95.50% and the Overall Kappa Statistics is 0.9325 using ERDAS 2014 program, Arc GIS 10 program used in order to create a digital LULC map. | |
