الملخص | The map area is built up mainly of sedimentary rocks with some igneous and metamorphic rocks in the extreme northeastern part of the map area. The sedimentary rocks range in age from Triassic to Pliocene with different types of Quaternary sediments
Structurally, the map area-lies within the Low Folded zone, high, Folded Zone and geosyaclinal area. It is characterized by long and narrow anticlines, with thrusting and different types of faulting. Fifty tow main anticlines are developed within the map area with other minor-ones. Large number of them are faulted others overthrusted and few of them overturned.
Geomorphologically, the map-area consists of flat terrain in the southwestern part and mountainous area in the remaining parts, which increase in relief northeast-wards with very ruged topography. Four types of geomorphological units are developed within the map area. Mass movements, weathering and erosion are important active features in the map area.
Hydrogeologically, the map-area is charaeterised by carbonate aquifers except the southwestern, northeastern and central parts which are characterised by gypsum, igneous, metamorphic rocks and clastic rocks, respectively. The water in the map area is almost fresh with slightly brackish type in the southwestern part only. The map area is also characterised by existing of numerous springs which yield good quality and quantity of water.
Marble, limestone, gravels and sandstone and claystone are the main raw materials with economic potential within the map area. The map area is also a promising area concerning eccnomic deposits and shawings of different metalic deposits like lead, copper, sphalerite, galena, chrome, iron and asbestose. | |
