PREPARATION OF LIGHT WEIGHT CERAMIC TILES BY USING CLAYS OF OLD FORMATIONS OF NAENAVA GOVERNORATE
الملخص
According to the last technical studies of Al-kend hilles clay in Naenava governorate for the manufacture of building material, clay sample (K3S4) from the same area was used to spot suitability to prepare light weight tiles by adding various type of combustible materials to clay samples (rice husk ash, saw dust, poly styrene, and betmous) in different percentages. The prepare samples were pressed in a mold dimension (5*5*10) cm at 250 Kg/cm2, then dried andall samples were fired at temperature 1050˚C, exception the polystyrene samples was fired at 1075 ˚C, according to certain firing program (5 ˚C/min, socking time 1 hour).
The results indicated that the clay (K3S4) suitable for making light weight tiles by adding combustible materials, the best physical and thermal conductivity properties were obtained by adding rice husk ash with betmous BR1 and BR2, in comparison with ordinary tiles, producing low density tiles 1.15 and 1.17 g/cm3, modulus of rupture 1.50, 1.85 MN/m2 and thermal conductivity 0.551, 0.607 W/m.°C. Any reduction in density and thermal conductivity lead to reduction in load of building on foundations and energy consumption for heating and cooling accordingly.
