GEOPHYSICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL STUDY FOR THE AREA SOUTHWEST OF KARBLA GOVERNORATE.
الملخص
According to the annual investment plan of Iraq Geological Survey, related to the detailed geological survey project of area in western south of Karbla Governorate.Four boreholes were drilled in south west Karbala Governorate, to apply the resistivity method in order to study and evaluate the hydrogeological and geological condition, and study the hydrogeological and hydrochemical conditions of this area. Pumping test was carried out for all wells, drilled within Dibdibba, Injana and Nfayil formations and upper part of Euphrates Formation. Quaternary sediments are composed of alluvial depression, Valleys sediments slopes sediments, Depression sediments are composed of clay and salty materials while valley sediments are composed of clay and sand of alluvial origin thickness of this sediments are about (2-3m) unconformable with Dibdibba formation to a depth up to 22m at this depth, the end of Dibdibba and beginning the Injana formation composed of (silt, sand and clay), at depth( 40-47m) reached Nfayil formation, composed red clay and white marl with consequent of clay and sand, this wells drilled at depth between (90-190m),This study Proved that the Injane formation represent the upper main aquifer in the area,To calculate the hydraulic coefficients of its aquifer, by using (Schlumberger Aquifer Test,2011) Program. The results indicated that the aquifer has low transmissivity because the permeability in study area was low ranging between (0.6in-2.4). The results of chemical analysis carried out to the water sample collected from wells showed that the water hard and of sulphatic type, which is not suitable for human drinking and suitable for animal drinking except poultry and suitable agriculture purposes.
