SERIES OF LAND USE LAND COVER MAPS OF IRAQ SCALE 1:250000 AL-BREET QUADRANGLE SHEET NH-38-1
الملخص
The map area lies in the southern part of Iraq. This report deals with a study that was carried out to produce Land Use Land Cover (LULC) Map of Al-Breet Quadrangle, Sheets No. NH-38-1 at Scale of 1:250 000, using supervised classification from remote sensing data by using Landsat 8 with resolution 30m (LDCM) Landsat Data Continuity mission satellite image belong to 2013, and classification procedure; that was developed by USGS and modified by Remote Sensing Division team of GEOSURV, IRAQ 2011.
The LULC map of the map area was produced depending on classification of each pixel of Landsat 8 (LDCM) image to be assigned to one of the two main classes, some of the classes were modified and interpolated after supervised classification, because of the interference between these classes in some places in the map area, or as a result of occurrence of scattered pixels for any of these classes with the other classes.
The accuracy assessment, which was generated from the supervised classification technique, showed that the overall classification accuracy is 94.67% and Overall Kappa Statistics is 0.9279. The map area is classified into two classes and included six subclasses; Barren Land is dominant subclass.
Two main classes have recognized in the map area, these are: Vegetated Land (Code 2), included one subclass, Shrubland (Code 24) ,and Barren Land (Code 7), which is divided into three subclass, Bare Exposed Rocks (Code 74); included two subclass; Sedimentary Rocks (Code 742); included two unit: Carbonate Rocks (Code 7421) and Conglomerate (Code 7423); Desert Varnish (Code 744); Mixed Barren Land (Code 77) and Bare Soil (Code 78).
