SERIES OF LAND USE LAND COVER MAPS OF IRAQ SCALE 1:250000 AL- ANSAB QUADRANGLE SHEET NH-38-10
الملخص
The map area is located in the southern part of Iraq, and lies within the northern Arabian platform (Ma`ala 2009). The remote sensing techniques were used in order to produce a Land Use_ Land Cover (LULC) map of Al-AnsabQuadrangle, scale 1:250 000 depending on Landsat 8LDCM satellite image at acquisition date 2014, andclassification procedure that is followed by USGS and developed by the remote sensing division in Iraq GEOSURV.
The LULC map of the map area was produced depending onERDASV. 2014 by classifying each pixel of LDCM image which tobelong to one of thetwo main LULC classes. Some classes were modified and interpolated using GIS, because of the interference between these classes in some places on themap area. The accuracy assessment for classification is (96.67 %)and Kappa coefficient is(0.949)
The LULC raster image is converted to vector structure, using ArcGIS v.10 programin order to produce a digital LULC map.
Two mainclasses of LULC wererecognized in the map area, which are Vegetated Land (Code1), andBarren Land (Code7). The Barren Land Classis subdivided into five subclasses, which are Bare Exposed Rocks (Subcode74), Mixed Barren Land (Subcode77), Bare Soil (Subcode78), DesertVarnish (Subcode745), and Desert Pavement (Subcode745). Among them, The Bare Exposed Rocksubclass is subdivided into Sedimentary Rocks subclass which is represented by Carbonate Rocks (Subcode7421).
