REPROCESSING AND REINTERPRETATION OF AEROMAGNETIC AND GRAVITY DATA USING MONTAJ SOFTWARE TO INTRODUCE STRUCTURAL

Geophysical Division in GEOSURV has been decided to reprocess and reinterpret the aeromagnetic and gravity database by using Oasis montaj software to introduce structural markers in Iraq. Structural markers, which inferred from geophysical data for the whole Iraqi territory (except the northeastern part) over the past years at scale of 1:250000, were published as series of geophysical maps. Al-Basrah, Al-Amara, Al-Kuwait, Abadan and Bubian Quadrangles, sheets No. NH-38-8, NH-38-4, NH-38-12, NH-39-5, and NH-39-9, respectively, have been involved in this report as a map area.
The northeastern part of the map area within Mesopotamia Foredeep, while the southwestern part lies within the Inner Platform. Several magnetic and gravity anomalies were identified in the map area. They were attributed to geological contacts, axis of anticlinal structures, and faults. 2D forward modeling and basement inversion processing were applied in this report. In addition, several processes and data enhancement have been applied through filtrations to distinguish in more certainty the type and to estimate the depths of the structures in the map area. Qualitative and quantitative interpretations were executed in this report. All the revealed structural markers were superimposed on the geological map so as to be of benefits for other applications
