الملخص | This report discusses the hydrogeological and hydrochmical evaluation of the aquifers in Al Ramadi Quadrangle sheet (NI-38-9) scale 1:250000.
The work is a compilation on what has been written on the aquifers encountered during drilling taking into consideration the previous hydrogeological field works performed on area under study. Test results of chemical analysis were re-evaluated and doubtful results were discarded.
Hydrogeological investigations have revealed the existence of five aquifers in the area, viz in Euphrates, Um Er Radhuma, Tayarat, Rutba sst. and Muhaiwir formations. Ground water is also in other aquifer of lesser importance and small quantities viz in Dammam, Injana, M'Sa'ad and Equivalent to Sa'adi Formation. These aquifers are hydrogeological connected region wise.
The water in the aquifers is almost confined to fractures, Joints and vugs that characterise the carbonate deposits of these formations. Hydraulic coefficients of aquifers vary considerably due to hetrogenous charactrs of the rocks.
Groundwater movement is to wards NE in the area west of the Euphrates River whereas it is towards SW in the east side of the river.
Euphrates River is considered as a discharge zone for the ground water spring zone extending along the fault line and it is also considered as a discharge zone.
Hydrochemical evaluation indicates that most of the ground water in the sheet belongs to Na-chloride type and that 43% of these water are slightly brackish (1000-3000)mg/l.
Ground water is not suitable for domestic use but 9% may be used for agricultural purposes.
However most of these waters can be used for these purposes under sever conditions and suitable watering management.
41-93%of the ground water may be used for stock use. We may also use 15% of the waters for construction purposes and only few samples can be used | |
