QUALITATIVE INTERPRETATION OF THE AIRDORNE RADIOMETRIC DATA OF WADI AL-MIYAH AND AL-BU KAMAL QUADRANGLES USING GIS
الملخص
The total count radiometric data of the map area was analyzed and separated to its residual and regional (background) maps. The regional maps showed an increase in radiometric background towards the southeast, while the residual radiometric anomaly map showedfive residual radiometric anomalies distributed in the map area, anomaly R1, R2 and R3 located in the north of the map areaand mostly related to the exposures of Fatha Formation (Upper and Lower Member) and to Sabkha Sediment (Sabkhat Abu Gharis).
Anomaly (R4) located in the middle of the map area and mostly related to the exposures of Euphrates Formation (Upper and Lower Member), Nafyil Formation, and Flood Plain Sediment, Anomaly (R5) located in the southwest of the map area, and mostly related to the exposures of Ratga Formation (Damlouk Member) andShurau and Sheikh Alas Formation.
A comparison between total count radiometric map of the map area and geological map of the Wadi AL-Miyah and AL-Bukamal Quadrangle was carried out; it showed radioactivity range of each geologic formation and Quaternary sediments.
Generally, the structural setting of the map area, which characterized by existence of numerous surface and subsurface structure (folds, Faults, and Grabens) play important role in direct forming of the radiometric anomalies of the map area(R3 and R4).
