DISTRIBUTION AND CONCENTRATION TYPES OF FELDSPAR IN SOUTH NASIRIYAH,ZURBATIYAH AND NAJAF-KARBALA PLATEAU

Abstract

The present work deals with the petrographic analysis studies of 256 fractions belong to 64 sand samples to identify the concentration and types of feldspar by using binocular microscope. In Zurbatiya, south Nasiriyah and Karbala‒Najaf plateau. Petrographic mineralogical studies that the sediment contain mainly from quartz percentage reach 97.3% Zurbatiya area while the lowest percent reach 36.8% in Najaf‒Karbala area, which present as mono‒crystalline and poly crystalline. The second mineral in sediment feldspar mineral K‒feldspar and Na‒feldspar percentage reaches in Zurbatiya area K‒feldspar between 0.08‒50%, Na‒feldspar between 0.13‒20 % in the samples. In Nasiriyah area K‒feldspar is between 0.48‒18.8 %, and Na‒feldspar is between 3‒10.5 % in samples. In Najaf‒Karbala the K‒feldspar is between 3.3‒26.4 %, and Na‒feldspar is between 1.15‒15.7 % in samples. Also, other mineral contains from fragment, heavy mineral iron oxide and clay fragment.
