QUALITATIVE INTERPRETION OF THE AIRBORNE RADIOMETRIC DATA OF AL-RAMADI QUADRANGLE USING GIS TECHNIQUES
الملخص
A comparison between total count radiometric map and geological map of the Al-Ramadi Quadrangle was carried out; it showed radioactivity range of each geologic formation and Quaternary sediments. The total count radiometric map of the map area was divided into three radiometric zones according to the range of total count radioactivity levels of different units and geologic formations.
The total count radiometric data was analyzed and separated to its residual and regional (background) maps. The regional maps showed an increase in radiometric background towards the northeast, while the residual radiometric anomaly map appear two residual radiometric anomalies distributed in the map area, the first one (R1) located in the east of the map area andcoincide on surface with two geological features. They are mostly related to the exposures of the Euphrates Formation, on one hand, and with the Euphrates Fault Zone on the other hand.
The second one (R2) located in the southwest of the map area. This anomaly mainly related to the topographic depression (Faidht Al-Awaj). This depression characterized by accumulations sediment of high clay mineral content (silt and clay), which have high ability on concentration of radioactive element (potassium element).
