GEOLOGICAL HAZARD MAPSar
الملخصThe map area is located in the northeastern part of the Iraq . It is characterised by undulated plains, hilly and mountainous areas that increase in elevation northeastwards . The geomorphological units in the map area are of structural – denudational, denuadational, alluvial, karst and evaporation origins. Different types of mass movements occur in the map area. The exposed formations, in the map area range in age from Upper Jurassic up to Pliocene, with different types of Quaternary deposits. The main exposed rock types are clastics (with conglomerates ) with limestones and dolostones, in the northeastern parts . Gypsum is exposed very locally. Fourteen anticlines are located in the map area , they have NW-SE trend , in the northeastern part they have almost N-S trend. Many of the anticlines exhibit thrusting, the northeastern limb being thrusted over the southwestern one . Concerning neotectonic, the majority of the map area is subsided. The maximum recorded subsidence is more than 4000m. Majority of the map area is characterised by fresh water of carbonate type. The depth of the ground water ranges from 125-600 m. Nine types of geological hazards are acting in the map area, these are floods, tectonically active tones, ground subsidence, pollution, karstification, gypsum related hazards, gypcrete, mass movements and earthquakes. In zonation and ranking of the geological hazards, the floods have recorded the maximum weight (9.5), whereas the minim weight is (1.5) by gypsum related hazards , tectonically active zones and karstification.
