INVESTIGATION OF LIMESTONE SUITABLE FOR CEMENT INDUSTRY IN SULAIMANIYA.

Abstract

Geological survey of the studied area indicate the presence of huge quantity of limestone suitable for cement industry which is correspond to the Standaned Iraqi Specification. The study includes field description of sections besides sampling in order to determine the chemical parameters.

Sinjar and Khurmala Formations of Paleocene – Eocene age are exposed in the area which consist of limestone.

Microfacies and paleontological studies represent six geological sections covering the whole area, besides recognizing the fossils in each formation Geological reserve have been calculated for each section depending upon appanent thickness, angle of dip, area, and bulk density.
