HYDROGEO.&HYDROCHEM.STUDY OF AL-SALMAN QUADRANGLE PLATE (NH-38-6).

Abstract

This report discusses the hydrogeological and hydrochemical evaluation of the aquifers in Al-Salman Quadrangle sheet (NH 38-6) scale 1:250000 . The work is a compilation on what has been written on aquifers encountered during drilling taking into consideration the previous hydrogeological field as documented and extended to the most recent years have been covered for the purpose of compiling this work . Hydrogeological investigation reveals that there are three important aquifers which have been works performed on the area under study pumping tests , well tests , chemical analysis and other aspects have been considered . Works performed encountered during drilling in the area under study ;viz , in Dammam , Um Radhuma and Tayarat Formations which form a complex hydrogeological unit , hydraulically connected regionally , but locally may be considered as confined . The water in the aquifers is almost confined to fractures , joints and vugs that characterise the carbonate deposits of these formations . Hydrodynamic parameters have been delineated for the aquifers whenever possible . Generally these parameters differs very much in values in each of these aquifers studied indicating the diversification in the formation lithology . Groundwater may be regarded as unsuitable for human uses except in some places where aquifers get their recharge from nearby sources . However , groundwater may be used in extreme cases for agricultural purposes .
