GEOTECHNICAL EVALUATION OF SHARI JWAN HOTEL.
الملخص
Comprehensive geotechnical study was carried out for a site in Sulaimaniya Governorate, which is located about 4 km. from city center, where a grand hotel is to be built.
- The site is a longitudinal hill representing a double plunging anticline, which it self is the southeastern plunge of Pera-Magroon anticline
Regionally the area is highly affected by tectonic movements, which led to folding , faulting, jointing, shearing ….ext
- The site is evaluated by subsurface and surface studies and slope stability assessment.
- Subsurface evaluation included geotechnical logging of (200) m. core that represent nine drilled boreholes, and laboratory tests for (84) samples, including petrophysical, physical, mechanical tests, upon which rock mass was evaluated for each borehole and subsurface correlation charts were drawn.
- Surface study included engineering geological mapping for rock and soil, using point load device and Unified Soil Classification System for (17) soil sample.
- Six geotechnical sections were studied for lithology, and discontinuities with mechanical and petrophysical tests.
- Slope stability assessment was achieved by using direct shear box for core samples representing four boreholes to get shear strength parameters (C, Ø) for bedding planes which are considered the most susceptible sliding plane, moreover four stations were studied to determine shear strength for the predicted sliding planes, and compare them with that of the boreholes.
