| المؤلف | Summary
This study was carried out in the area located about 35 km west of Nasiriya cityand 75 km to theeast of Smawacity to investigate the sand suitability ofthermostone industrial.
The area of study is carried out 2.39 km2 covered by drilling of 24 boreholes distributed a net of 400 m X 400 m, the average depth of the boreholes about12.0 m, and the total drilling meters was 255 m.
One hundred and nine samples were collected from the boreholes submitted to grains analysis sizes for the fractions (4mm– 0.063mm) the results show that 87.9% of the bulk sand restricted total sizes (<2mm – 0.125 mm), suitable for thermostone industrial

Two hundred and four samples submitted to chemical analyzed results showed the following percentage of the components in acceptable properties in thermostone industrial:
SiO2 Fe2O3 Al2O3 CaO MgO SO3 L.O.I Na2O K2 O CL Na2O+K2O

The results of the field work and laboratories tests showed the industrial bed suitable for the thermostoneranging between (1.5- 7.30) m with the average thickness 3.77 m
The industrial bed under from an overburden from gypsum sandstone, soil with gravels and granules friable to medium tough, ranging in thickness (0.4 -9.5) m with the average thickness 3.75 m and superimposed with inner bed ranging between (0.0-0.3) m, and showed in only three boreholes.
Volume of the industrial bed from sandstone suitable for thermostone manufactured is about 7 924, 000 m3. | |
