| الملخص | The planktonic foraminifera of Miocene section of the Sinjar area, NW Iraq were utilized to interpret the biostratigraphy, and zonation of the Serikagni Formation. The planktonic foraminiferal assemblage of the Serikagni Formation represents the Early Miocene (Aquitanian – Early Burdigalian) of Globigerinoides quadrilobatus primordius –Goborotalia kugeri Zone (N.4), Globoquadrina dihsescens predehiscens – Globoquadrina dehiscens dehiscens Zone (N.5), and Catapsydrex, stainforthia – Catapsydrex disimilis Zone (N.6).
A sparse fauna representing the Globigerina angulisaturalias – Globorotallia opima, opima Zone (N.2) unconformably underlies the Serikagni Formation. The Jeribe Formation of early Middle Miocene of Globorotalia barisanensis Zone (N.9) overlies the Serikagni Formation, which is also marked by a major erosional unconformity.
Discussion between this work and recently carried out work studies, concerning the biostratigraphy of Early Miocene sediments, in Sinjar area is presented too. | |
