BENCH SCALE BENEFICIATION OF KILO-180 SAND GLASS/WESTERN DESERT FOR GLASS INDUSTRY
الملخص
This research was conducted on a bench scale to assure the possibility of using kilo-180 sand deposit for normal glass manufacture. It was found that by subjecting the raw sand to a dry screening to remove undesirable size fractions, resulted in a product suitable for glass industry. It is also itable for foundry work if wet screening was used.
The chemical analysis results showed that the sand product resulted from the dry screening have a high silica (98.8%) SiO2 content and low iron oxide (0.05%) Fe2O3, which is in accordance with the specific requirements of the consumer (The State Company for Glass and Ceramic production ).The sand resulted from wet screening (for foundry work) contains (99.1%) SiO2 with (0.04%) Fe2O3, and have (AFS) value of (57.65%).This specification however, is within the requirements level needed for foundry sand by the consumer (Nassr State Company for Mechanical Industries) and also withen the specification ranges of the American Foundrymens Society,1978.
